Julia Band Orange

Hi! My name is Julia Band Orange, and I’m a drum teacher and musician with approximately 13 years of playing experience. I studied with a classically trained rock drummer for about eight years and have performed and recorded with numerous bands throughout the GTA since I was around 10 years old.
I recently graduated from Boston University with a Bachelor’s degree in Marine Science with Honours, along with a minor in English. During my time at BU, I was also a member of the BU Pep Band, where I played baritone horn for hundreds of hours at sporting and social events. I served as the baritone section leader during my final two years. While living in Boston, I also formed the shoegaze/grunge band Slackmagic. Our two records are available on all major streaming platforms.
Although I’m new to teaching, I’ve been involved in the music industry for many years. My training has placed a strong emphasis on developing dynamic, precise playing within the context of a song, while maximizing efficiency and movement around the kit. Proper posture, technique, and form are also fundamental to my approach.
My playing is primarily focused on rock and indie pop. Within these styles, I believe the drums should serve the music—supporting the song’s musicality, groove, and dynamic changes rather than always taking the spotlight.
I also have extensive knowledge of organization and business strategies within the music industry, and I enjoy helping musicians develop the skills and tools they need to communicate their musical goals—not only with their teacher and themselves, but with fellow musicians and collaborators.
I’m excited to meet and work with the next generation of drummers and help them develop their skills, confidence, creativity, and love of music!
